Our prices will rise on Jan. 1, 2022 - background & details

Dear Matcha & Sencha Fans,

since the opening of our online store in January 2020, we have been able to keep almost all our prices constant. 2 years after our launch, we will now generally increase the prices on 1.1.2022. Before we get to the individual prices, we would like to inform you quite transparently about the increased costs that lead to the price increase. If you want to get to the new prices right away, just click here.

What are the costs of the price increases?

✈️ The biggest factor is our transport costs. We are dependent on international imports and thus on logistics companies. They are successively increasing costs such as fuel surcharges, increasingly so since Corona. This affects our green teas in particular, as they are flown in by air. Instead of adjusting our prices every few months, we want to compensate for this with a single clear price increase.

👨‍🌾 As already Takayuki-San, the tea farmer of our Sencha N°1, now also other tea farmers like e.g. Haruki-San, who produces our Sencha N°2, are raising their prices. However, we do not want to give up these green teas with their usual quality and therefore remain loyal to all our tea farmers. We pass on a part of these price increases to the prices in the online store.

Our purchase prices for accessories such as matcha tins, tea strainers, and teapots have also increased, especially in 2021. Our suppliers justify this with increased container prices as well as increased raw material, wage and energy costs.

💸 Last but not least, as SHO CHA, we are no longer a small business as of 1/1/2022. We have to pay VAT at the rate of 7% for green tea and 19% for ceramics & accessories.

With this clearly communicated price increase, we would like to inform you transparently & give you the opportunity to supply your favorite teas at the usual prices still in December. If you have any questions about this topic or if there is something else on your mind, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
