BENIFUUKI WAKOUCHA

BENIFUUKI WAKOUCHA
NEW & for a very limited time only! 🌸🌊 Just arrived 🍃🛬
Akane San has crafted a black tea from the famous Benifuuki cultivar with a completely surprising flavor profile—one that is virtually unmatched in terms of sweetness and full-bodied richness. In addition to its very high EGCG/catechin content and its popularity among people with allergies, Benifuuki is particularly known for its strong astringency and bitterness. None of that is detectable in this sweet and mellow black tea. Instead, it is dominated by sweetness, a warm aroma, a full-bodied character, and slightly fruity and spicy notes. Akane San has produced only a very small quantity, which will be available exclusively at SHO CHA. Don’t miss out on this special tea!

Volcanic earth
Akane San's tea fields are located within direct sight of the active volcanic island of Sakurajima. As a result, the soil is particularly rich in nutrients. Combined with the clean spring water and the subtropical climate, this creates a particularly high-quality black tea.
Women's issue
Akane San is gradually taking over the tea farm from her father together with her sister. This is still a novelty in Japan.

This loose-leaf Benifuuki black tea has a sweet, mellow flavor. Intense sweetness, a warm aroma, a full-bodied taste, and subtle fruity and spicy notes—such as peach or strawberry—dominate.

This black tea comes from Makizono in Kagoshima Prefecture on the southern island of Kyushu. Akana & Yuri San’s tea farm is located directly across from the active volcanic island of Sakurajima and has been managed for decades without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Akana San spent several years in Shizuoka specifically to study tea cultivation and processing there. Since her return, she and her sister have been gradually taking over the tea farm from their parents.
-
The sisters grow all their teas without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Of course, we have also had the pesticide-free status checked again externally - you can see the pesticide report in the picture gallery above. So you can be sure that our tea is 100% free from harmful substances.
Akane & Yuri use tea bushes of the Benifuuki cultivar for their sweet black tea. This variety was originally used as a medicinal tea because the tea leaves contain high levels of catechins (EGCG), which are said to have health benefits. Through aging and light fermentation into Japanese black tea, this tea—which is actually known as a “medicinal tea”—becomes a very special black tea. With its full-bodied, aromatic, and sweet flavor, it is a rare treat.

2–3 teaspoons per teapot / 75 degrees / 90 seconds
The loose tea is brewed in a teapot with a strainer. Alternatively, you can use refillable disposable tea bags. It’s a very sweet, richly aromatic, and mellow black tea that appeals to both beginners and green tea connoisseurs. Our tutorial video below shows you how easy it is to prepare.
More infusions
Like any good Sencha, it can of course be infused several times. An infusion time of 10-20 seconds is sufficient. Due to its fine leaf, up to 5 infusions are possible. Not only does the tea last longer, but more and more healthy substances are released from the tea. Of course, you can also try out different temperatures and infusion times to find out what you like best.
Cold infusion
Just like our sencha teas, black tea is especially well-suited for cold brewing: simply pour cold water over the same amount of black tea and let it steep for 5–10 minutes. Your delicious, refreshing drink is ready. Our tutorial video below shows you this simple and super refreshing brewing method.
Storage
Benifuuki black tea comes in a sealed, resealable aroma pouch. This makes it super easy to dispense, and the tea stays fresh for a long time.
