This highly aromatic & full-bodied Kabusecha green tea from the first 2025 harvest comes from Mr. Iwakura from Shimada (Shizuoka). The new harvest is particularly impressive due to its stronger sweetness and perfect balance. Due to its long shading with nets & its particularly natural cultivation, it is very aromatic, unique & full-bodied in taste. The natural fertilization with tea grass (Chagusaba) is a traditional method from Shizuoka Prefecture and ensures a broad, complex aroma. Despite its intense, aromatic flavor, this top-quality green tea has no astringency and is not at all bitter. Like all our green teas, it is of course completely pesticide-free.

Harumidori means “spring green” and is the name of the tea plant variety (cultivar) used for this top-grade Sencha green tea. Very high umami, intense sweetness, and a soft, mellow character are actually typical of shaded Gyokuro, yet the distinctive aroma of this Harumidori Sencha does not result from shading. The extremely rare cultivar, hand-picked by tea farmer Nobuyuki San, and a light aging process create the Gyokuro-like flavor along with a slightly sweet fruitiness. For anyone who loves the high umami and sweetness of Gyokuro but doesn’t want to sacrifice the freshness and fruitiness typical of Sencha, this tea is just right. Sencha Harumidori is a hand-picked Sencha green tea specialty with an incomparable character, aroma, and flavor.

Akane San has crafted a black tea from the famous Benifuuki cultivar with a completely surprising flavor profile—one that is virtually unmatched in terms of sweetness and full-bodied richness. In addition to its very high EGCG/catechin content and its popularity among people with allergies, Benifuuki is particularly known for its strong astringency and bitterness. None of that is detectable in this sweet and mellow black tea. Instead, it is dominated by sweetness, a warm aroma, a full-bodied character, and slightly fruity and spicy notes. Akane San has produced only a very small quantity, which will be available exclusively at SHO CHA. Don’t miss out on this special tea!

Yama no Kaze means “mountain breeze” and captures the fresh, floral aroma of this unique Sencha green tea. Subtle sweetness, notes of wild herbs, and a clear, long-lasting finish with distinct umami reflect the special production process of this green tea: after harvesting, the tea is left to mature overnight in bamboo baskets over mountain spring water to develop its unique aroma, reminiscent of the floral notes of a light oolong tea. This type of Sencha is also called “Kaori Ryokucha” because of its floral aroma (香り/Kaori). A hand-picked Sencha green tea specialty with a unique character, highly aromatic flavor, and airy freshness.
